Good morning? yeah.. good morning, that is , assuming you just had a good sleep. Well, did you sleep well? I want to share with you something I just read about getting a good nights sleep. I have been having trouble with sleep, so i am sharing a tip I think might be a solution. If you are a worrier and a thinker, as I can be sometimes, then this is what I have to suggest: Before going to sleep reserve an hour ( or half hour - or however much time you can create) to sit down and write out all or any of your worries or concerns. Then decide for yourself if there is anything you can do to alleviate the concern. If there is something you can do, write it down and do it the next day. If there is nothing you can do about it then let it go. Let all your worries out on these cards and then go to sleep. Let it all go.

September 2011:
It has been challenging as a dance teacher to make a decent living in my home of the Comox Valley. I have been on a sabbatical from teaching for several months now. During this time I have been asking myself how I can share my dance work and still be able to experience the fortune of making a living following my passion. In this time off I have chosen to include my other passion, Holistic Healing, that has been on hold for some time into my practice. So, I am pleased to be now offering bodywork and energy work, intuitive consulting and nutrition out of my home in Comox (although I am moving soon to Courtenay.) I will be teaching dance again soon, and I am still inquiring within myself what kind of dance it is I wish to teach and to whom (adults, children). I am looking for a place to teach out of; if you, reader, know of a place to rent that is suitable for sacred dance, please let me know! As well, eventually, I will wish to set up my healing bodywork practice outside of my home; so will require a space to do that, preferably with a team of body worker(s). In the meanwhile have a look at this beautiful dance video. \”Weightless\” by Erika Janunger I find the concept and the dance very inspiring and creative. Blessings. I welcome your comments. To your health! Jade

Here is a little about CI dance:

So…. what is contact improv? Besides being fun, it is a moving meditation; a practice of being present and in the moment as you move in non-choreographed ways with another person. It can be slow and flowing, fast and flowing, move from high to low levels, it can take you upside down or it can remain peaceful and more of an energy (non- contact) dance. In my classes the age range is 8-75 years old… (could be older or younger I suppose). I offer contact dance technique and guided movement activities as well as time for reflection and check in with the group. The technique is mainly how to lift, how to listen as you dance, what to do or not do when you support someone else’s body, how to come off or onto another persons body (how to make it flow smoothly), falling with grace, safety tips and “rules”, varying your movement possibilities, and generally learning to free up and move in energy efficient, smooth ways so that it feels good and gives you energy. We also do improvisation and creative activities to open your mind a little more than you may be used to. Contact dance is a dance about relationship; you relate with yourself (paying attention to your self) and you relate to another (or maybe a group). The relationship asks you: do you like to support as much as you like to be supported? How much do you trust? Can you let yourself go? Can you say no? Can you stop and pause and go slow.. or can you let go and fall and fumble and be messy and silly? Lots of options!! It is a very unique form of movement and so it is a unique and open minded crowd. Improvisation means that you move as you are inspired to in the moment; for me it asks me to let go of limiting thoughts and judgments, IE: “aagh, what am I doing? I can’t do this.”… and instead decide to stay in my body, listen to my body as it is in physical contact with another body. Improvisation, for me, is very freeing – no body else and no choreography telling me what to do except my body wisdom and personal creativity (or maybe it is my soul that’s leading). Contact Improvisation dance is a freeing dance, it is non linear, it is physical and creative, it is fun and often funny. For me, after several years of practicing it, it is very satisfying. I invite you to come try. Maybe you know someone else who may enjoy it. I offer a fun, safe, contemplative and pure space for it to happen. The community of people doing it are awesome, open minded people who like to play, laugh and connect in deep and straight forward – (no confusing games) kind of ways…. so what are you waiting for… c u soon

A NICE VIDEO IS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQDZT6vfEyQ

Sometimes I go out dancing to a party or to a bar. It’s getting to be bedtime (for me; I like to go to bed early when I can) and yet my spirit is up for some fun, movement and social interaction. If I were to write a poem inspired by a night this past weekend it might go like this… well it is going like this:

I swim in a sea of dancing bodies,

rhythm of this dj has just morphed out of the last one,

I dance in to my own heart’s decree, but he helps me, music man,

landing upon a carpet of melody the pain disipates,

the thoughts meadander into yesterday

I climb then onto my man’s back; asking for forgiveness of my age and meager past life story

hoping to bask in a moment of connection.

We rest in each others’ flower

as I uncurl from his breast I feel a

throb in my arm as someone spins a cartwheel catching me in the arm

brings me down to earth till I can have certainty again

open my eyes to watch the others dance.

one man spinning one woman,

one man off in his mind of dnace, somewhere,

sometimes beer gets in the way of the dance.

two women are in trance, eyes closed, breathing in their sensuality as goddesses

here on dance floor earth.

I go by a speaker and kiss it’s bass line as the tremor melts my diss-ease, causing me to smile and wriggle

Here is an interesting video by a Montreal Dance troupe called “La La La Human Steps” . I especially like this video because of the passion and the beautiful agility of the female dancer. I am attracted to how the man moves the woman’s hips about. There is some kind of desire on her part to express herself; I enjoy her ability to be vulnerable with the two men. Have a look Let me know what you feel and think about this one.

Excerpt from a Comox Valley newspaper article about dance with Jade de Trey. – more explanation of the dance!

Contact Improvisation Dance is usually done with a partner (we rotate partners, so there is no need to come to class with a partner already) and it involves listening with the body and with ones intuition. There is a sense of “going with the flow” as the two body’s move together; no one is leading and yet both are leading. Although there is quite a range of techniques and concepts to explore, there are no set rules or choreography so dancing with other people can become delightfully playful and experimental. “Contact Improvisation” says de Trey, “is like a moving meditation; a practice of being in the moment while moving.” Jade guides the class in a way that is easy to follow and her intention is to sincerely explore moving from the whole body and for it to feel deeply nourishing and good. “The great thing about contact dance” says de Trey, “is that you can go at your pace and set your own limits; if you are feeling tired, fragile, hyper, playful, or whatever, there is a place to move that feeling. I love it because there is no real predictability for a dance; I am always surprised and if I am able to be present and stay with my sensations then I feel very enlivened. It is really a practice just like sitting meditation except that usually there is laughter, silliness and a feeling of being ‘worked out’ physically and spiritually.”

The other class Jade offers to adults is called ‘Shake Your Buddha~ Chakra Dance’. Chakra dance is done to eclectic, world music and is once again a dance about “dancing like no one is watching”. de Trey says “ I guide people to move from their chakra’s. There are seven energy centers within the body called “chakra’s”. If the chakra(s) are blocked then we don’t feel as vital as when they are spinning and open. Through movement, play, and connecting deeply to ourselves and within the group we become invigorated, more open to joy and generally feel better. Chakra dance is about moving ones whole body and becoming aware and connected to it. It is a lot of fun, there is no choreography and yet there is a still learning going on as dancers interact with each other in exploratory ways. Chakra dance really helps to lift the spirits and shake off the Winter blues!

Lately Jade has been incorporating something called “Brain Dance” into her classes (for adults and for children). “Brain dance”, says de Trey, “is like brain gym except that it is for the whole body. The aim (of Brain dance) is to access all different parts of the brain by moving all different parts of the body in specific and general ways.” de Trey studied this movement technique last Summer while studying something called “Brain Compatible Dance Education” at the Creative Dance Centre in Seattle WA. “Brain Compatible Dance is dance that the brain can comprehend easily and naturally. The intention is for the brain as much as the body to get a workout. Brain dance really makes sense to me and is totally fun.”

Contact Improvisation Dance happens every other Friday at the Abbey in Cumberland from 6:30-8:30pm.

Shake Your Buddha~ Chakra dance at the Abbey on Monday’s from 4-5:30pm and in Courtenay at 1957 Arden Road on Wednesday’s from 5-6:30pm.
